Photo Book

So I have created a Photo Book.  I went with the Apple Books.  I am very pleased with the quality of the prints. However some adjustments must be made on my part.  Overall I think the experience was wonderful.  Here are some of the photos I was working with.

Making a photo book

This week I got together the pictures for my Photo Book.  This book will show some personal photos of hands of my friends and family. The file for the book was sent away to be made on Monday.  I have never done a photo book before so I am anxiously waiting to see the final results. Here are some of the photos I was working with.

PUBLIC showing

Last Thursday my Photo Art class performed our first public showing of our work outside of the University.

Here is one of 4 posters.

Here is my project call Happy Hour

The show was a success based from the response I received.  I think I now have the confidence to pursue other projects of this nature.

Photo Scout

The pictures below show potential locations for some future photo shoot.  There are some very interesting spots here in Lethbridge Industrial Area that seems to come alive at night even with hardly anyone around.  There is certainly an element of excitement.  I recommend exploring with company and a light kit when shooting at night.  If you are interested in these locations let me know

PICTURES IN THE DARK

Here are some experiments that I am working on.  These photos were taken with a very long exposure and time lapse in the dark.  A colour flash light was moved around in the space to illuminate and create these effects. I am very fascinated by this.  With some more practise I will be able to create more controlled a precise effects. Stay tuned.

Colours of the week

This week I will explore the significance of colour in our environment along the lines of social identity, desire and space.  I choose to use black and white. These are technically not colours, but pigments one containing all colours while the other is a void of colour.  Black and white polarize our world. They create strong clear divisions socially and mentally.

Young Warriors.

I was driving along one afternoon.  The truck in the opposite lane was move slowly towards me.  Suddenly a hand came out the windows with a gun pointing at me.  Panic ensued, should I duck under the dash? Serve to the right or sallow hard and pray. About to do all three, too late the trucking is passing.  Silly me it was only a kid playing with a made to look real toy gun. Seven Eleven to my rescue I knew they had clean wash rooms.

Portraits in motion.

This weekend I attended The International Peace Pow Wow at the Enmax Centre.  Here I wanted to capture portraits of people in their tradition dancing dress.

Blind photographers

I have taught about this since my last class.  Can one become engage with photography without sight? what other senses would you need to awake when taking a photo without actually seeing?  I believe more is needed other than sight when taking photos. The camera can see therefore the photographer must feel. There is a need for emotion  and imagination something that can be felt from within.  There might be something more that I am not conscious of at this moment so I will continue exploring other creative ways of taking a photos without seeing the subject or composing.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”   Aaron Siskind

Partially blind photos

"A requirement for Photo Arts is the see" Here is the first of several experiments where I will try to create photos without actually composing or focusing the camera. These are the photos from experiment # 1 taken on an impulse with no particular subject in mind. The purpose is to see if great or interesting photos can be taken without seeing.

The next experiment I will take photos blind folded.

The camera has a tool part 11

After watching the movie Persona by Ingmar Bergman.  I believe  I got a sense of what he is trying to portray and if I could summarize it using just single words I would use the following.
Personality
Entangled
Reflective
Insecure
Unbalance
Sick
Hopeful
Lonely
Sad
Vulnerable
Self
Though there are other words which I could use these will provide the bases on which to explore the content of the movie and create some still photographs.

The image style generated from the film's cinematographer Sven Nykvist is somewhat moody. The images plays with the light and shadows. This manipulation propels each scene creating life, excitement and it also compliments the story.  As for the style of my photographs I will attempt to imitate some of the effects shown in the film using lights and shadows. I am hoping to use some unconventional camera angles.

See my examples below.
